Dominique James Celebrity Photographs |
Portraiture
is a common genre. There's no escaping the fact that people
are often a photographer's constant if not favorite subject.
Despite
its ubiquity however, there appears to be a dearth of portraits
that are compelling enough to rivet, even for a moment,
the fickle attention of viewers. Few photographers, it seems,
have theeye to create people images that elicit endless
wonder and scrutiny.

Today,
with his photographs of movie and television stars as well
as recording and performing artists, Dominique James is
among the photographers who define and redefine modern celebrity
portraiture.
Together
with the best stylists, hair-and-makeup artists, and image
consultants, Dominique James is
being recognized as one of the driving forces behind the
magic of celebrity imaging. And because his
star photographs constantly appear in magazine and album
covers, movie and promotional posters,
billboards and print ads, he is beginning to be widely acknowledged
and recognized as a photographer whose celebrity images
influence shifting public perceptions, fashions and lifestyles.
The
exhibition of Dominique James celebrity photographs features
a collection of more than 60 star portraits chosen from
hundreds of studio sessions and location pictorials, and
thousands of actual takes using the highly acclaimed Fuji
Finepix S1 Pro digital camera and digitally printed as well
with Fuji's Frontier.
The
month-long black-and-white and full-color exhibit of Dominique
James' STARS at The Alcove Gallery (Filipinas Heritage Library,
Makati Avenue) and STAR GAZINGS at The Studio Gallery Café
(The Dominique James Studio, Cavite Street, West Avenue)
runs from June 18 to July 13, 2002.
